We are thrilled to announce that after working with the fine folks at UWEC, The Blugold Radio Stage of the NYE Gala at The Lismore will now be open to all those who purchase the $10 wristband!
Blugold Radio worked to make this stage inclusive as possible while still watching important matters. Station Manager Scott Morfitt says, “We wanted to ensure that we were able to have as large of a crowd as possible, while still making sure that every band gets paid. Part of ‘supporting the scene’ is paying artists. It’s great we could make this work all around!”
That means in addition to giving you access to the live music and entertainment taking place at The Mousetrap Tavern, The Plus, The Lakely, The Firehouse, and The Stones Throw, you’ll also be able to enjoy the likes of We’re Wolves, LASKA, Jerrika Mighelle, The Jaggernauts, and sloslylove on our stage at The Lismore!
For those looking to stay put and enjoy a more upscale celebration the $55 tickets and $125 tickets are still available (more information on those below!) but for those of you looking exclusively to catch your favorite local band on the Blugold stage on NYE…now you can! Hope to see you there.

Without further adieu, we are proud to announce that the following bands/artists will be playing the Blugold Radio Stage at the First Annual New Year’s Eve Gala at The Lismore:
Without question one of the biggest earworms in terms of local artists on our airwaves was the chorus of “River” by this band, We’re Wolves. If you haven’t had “I dive, go wading in the water…” stuck in your head at least a few times the past 6 months then you probably haven’t been listening to Blugold Radio nearly as much as you should. This collaborative group combines hip-hop, folk, and indie rock into a unique and catchy package.
Words can’t describe the force of nature that is The Jaggernauts. To quote them, “The Jaggernauts will crush your head with a crowbar!” Though, their crushing is quite pleasant, travelling the gammut that is rock and/or roll.
Formerly of the EC trio QuinnElizabeth with her sisters, Jerrika is now primarily a solo artist whose live shows are an endearing juxtapostion of her powerful, heartfelt folk tunes and her playful, often hilarious banter between songs. She’s just completed her newest album and will no doubt be playing a lot of her latest material at this show!
sloslylove is the moniker of EC’s master producer/beatmaker Feng Meng Vue. Feng has been at the forefront of the growing EC electronic scene and was resultingly and deservedly picked to play this year’s Eaux Claires festival. His music combines spacey, sci-fi atmospherics and synthy 80’s nostalgia with a modern hip-hop sensibility–think along the lines of a sexier, dancier “Stranger Things” soundtrack. Suffice it to say that he’s got just the right kind of vibe for a late night NYE dance party.

If the opening moments of POLIÇA’s new album, United Crushers, leave you feeling unsettled, then Channy Leaneagh has done her job. With her voice pitch-shifted down into an ominous, nearly unrecognizable register, she sings of a post-industrial urban landscape littered with broken promises, a land of poverty and violence that’s been rigged against us from the start. Despite all that, though, there is an element of defiance, a refusal to surrender in her delivery of the lyrics. Halfway through that first track, “Summer Please,” when her gorgeous true singing voice enters on top of the deep and disturbing baritone, there is a moment of hope and transcendence, and it’s the key to unlocking United Crushers, POLIÇA’s third full-length release and most ambitious album to date. Even at its darkest, the record is musically the band’s most upbeat and celebratory. It is a weapon meant to empower the weak, the forgotten, and the disenfranchised; it’s very creation an act of rebellion in the face of the such forces as repression, social injustice, and one’s own self-doubt and isolation.
United Crushers was born out of the longest break from touring in POLIÇA’s history. The group originally emerged from Minneapolis in 2011 when Ryan Olson, GAYNGS leader, producer and Minneapolis’ master of curation, began collaborating with Leaneagh on a batch of synthesizer and percussion-heavy arrangements he had lying around. The resulting debut, 2012’s Give You The Ghost, immediately garnered international acclaim, with Rolling Stone hailing it as “the sound of heartbreak and celebration happening simultaneously” and Q praising it as “a bewitching, urgent, magical debut.” The quick success of Give You The Ghost brought with it a heavy touring schedule and an itch to keep creating. Taking just a few months off from the road, the band ventured into the studio and emerged with their follow-up, Shulamith, in the fall of 2013. EWcalled that album “propulsive enough for dance floors, and dreamy enough for headphones” and MOJO said it “proves that intelligent pop music still has the ability to seduce and enthrall.” Bolstered by a live lineup of dual drummers, Drew Christopherson and Ben Ivascu, Chris Bierden on bass and Leaneagh’s powerful voice, the band conquered massive festivals around the world from Coachella to Glastonbury in addition to performing on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and Later With Jools Holland. This week one of the most ambitious and exciting local music events to happen in the Chippewa Valley debuts, and all week we’ll be covering it on air and online.
Consider Blugold Radio your home for a last minute cram session to get to know the artists/bands you’re gonna see but may not already know, and get excited to experience and sample an amazing and varied roster of local artists this Saturday night at The Plus.
Without further adieu, let’s introduce you to the first two:
sloslylove is a producer/beatmaker who puts out laid back, atmospheric dance tunes steeped in 80’s synths and a sci-fi feel. He was a 2016 Eaux Claires fest artist and an artist who performs very regularly in both the Chippewa Valley and in the Twin Cities (and who routinely tours in and outside of the country!)
The Drunk Drivers are one of EC’s longest running bands, and they’ve been raising a ruckus and bringing rock ‘n’ roll to Chippewa Valley stages for 20+ years now. Their lives shows are rowdy and fun and need to be experienced (just know you’re going to be drenched in beer by the end of the show!). Also, it should be noted that Drunk’s member Jon Oldstadt is the mastermind and ringleader behind Sawdust City Limits. These guys have been a big part of the local music scene for a long, long time now and clearly from their continued work and dedication to the scene here we should expect them to continue being a fixture here for a long time to come.
The term “electronic music” feels a bit broad. Over the past 40 or so years, synthesizers have been employed to play anything from righteous classical music to the hard techno that pumps life through even the most underground rave. The Chippewa Valley has quite the burgeoning electronic music scene led by these three local synth masters. Coming in third this year is Two Castles, an electronic project which pairs unique beats with warm analog synths and a lo-fi edge. In second, we have newcomer Sniffle Party who makes infectious, sad girl pop songs with tons of heart and moody, soulful vocals. And, in first place is master of the downtempo groove, Sloslylove, who creates the perfect experimental dance tunes for you to get down to until the early hours of the morning. The Eaux Claires festival took notice, and booked Sloslylove for their 2016 lineup on The Banks stage. — Scott Morfitt (original article)
sloslylove is the moniker of EC based producer Feng Meng Vue. Feng’s music blends modern sounds with a nostalgic synth-soaked 80’s vibe–it’s safe to say some of his songs would feel very much at home on the “Stranger Things” soundtrack.
Feng has a lot of versatility as a beatmaker: he can just as easily craft a more laid back, soothingly ambient instrumental as he can drop an out-and-out banger that no one could possibly resist moving to.
Feng’s passion, humility, and work ethic have long been evident even to those who don’t know him outside of seeing him live. Quite simply there’s not many people that play more shows locally than slosly. He opens shows just as often as he headlines, he plays to packed houses and crowds of 8 kids with the same focus, he plays dance parties just as often as he plays punk shows. It’s clear there’s no ego at work here. Feng is someone who just loves making music and sharing it with people.
Ask nearly anyone involved with the area music and arts scene here in Eau Claire and they’d probably tell you that if anyone from the local scene deserves a shot at playing Eaux Claires, it’d be slosly. So here’s to you, Feng!
Oh, and by the way…with our classification the FCC requires we not give any calls to action on air, but we CAN give calls to action on here, so hey, YOU! Yeah, you, reading this and going to Eaux Claires this weekend: go see sloslylove, alright? Do it. 12:15-1 on Saturday at “The Banks”.
