This past August Converge Radio attended Hinterland Music Festival in Saint Charles, Iowa for the first time. As part of this our own Jordan Duroe—host of Converge’s weekly alt-country & Americana show “Farewell Transmission”—had the opportunity to connect with and interview several of the festival’s artists on behalf of Converge listeners. This included Joe Garner, the man behind The Kernal, a country-fried rock ‘n’ roll outfit that has been touring this year in support of their excellent 2022 release “Listen To The Blood”.
Jordan and Joe talk the history of the project, the trilogy of albums that The Kernal has released thus far, what the future holds for the concept behind The Kernal, their mutual appreciation of Tim Heidecker (whose great Hinterland set they discuss), and more!
While the interview was facilitated by Hinterland the actual conversation itself ended up taking place at The Raccoon Motel in Davenport, Iowa ahead of The Kernal’s show there—so thanks to Hinterland Music Festival for having us out and making this chat possible, Raccoon Motel for hosting said interview, and to Joe and The Kernal’s team for giving us the time.
