Bio:
Danny Brown is a Detroit-based rapper known for aggressive vocals and a sharp wit that simultaneously provokes laughter and raised eyebrows. At age 36, he’s older than many of his hip-hop contemporaries, though this difference contributes to his individuality and artistic success.
Brown released his debut album The Hybrid in 2010, but truly broke onto the scene in 2011 with his follow-up XXX. This project marked a focus on Brown’s struggles with his rock star lifestyle and the consequences that arise. This theme has been a constant in Danny’s music, as mentioned from a 2016 interview with Complex, “You can rap about whatever you want to rap about. Just make sure you tell kids the other side. If you gonna tell them about being high, tell them about the hangover”.
After XXX, Brown released Old in 2013, which fused his experimental sound with electronic, festival-ready instrumentals. This album broadened his audience without conceding the compelling narratives and biting wordplay he’s known for. Atrocity Exhibition is his latest album, which released in 2016 after being recorded over a two year period. Fearless genre-experimentation and Brown’s darkest material yet led to this being his most lauded project, resulting in appearances on many year-end best albums lists.
Danny Brown’s inventive flows, memorable lyrics, and unorthodox instrumentals will be on full display at Eaux Claires on June 17th.
