Blugold Radio 99.9 FM to air a readers’ theatre performance of War of the Worlds
In partnership with the Chippewa Valley Writers Guild, NOTA and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Foundation, Blugold Radio 99.9 FM will be airing a readers’ theatre performance of War of the Worlds on Sunday, October 30 at 8 pm and streaming it at BlugoldRadio.org.
The reading will be performed by UW Eau Claire students and members of both the Chippewa Valley Writers Guild and the Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild and will feature new sound effects and score.
Originally broadcast from New York’s Mercury Theatre and narrated by Orson Welles on Sunday, October 30, 1938, this radio play, based on the novel by H.G. Wells, caused a national stir as audiences believed that the tale of an extraterrestrial takeover of the world was actually taking place as the episode aired.
Prior to the Sunday 8pm Blugold Radio broadcast, there will be a live performance at the Volume One Local Store Gallery on Friday October 28 at 7pm. That event is free and open to the public. Don your 1930s attire and enjoy the invasion.
Due to licensing agreements, recordings of this performance will not be available. The live reading and Sunday night broadcast performances will be the only time to experience this local reading of War of the Worlds.
