With her upcoming, full length sophomore album – Mighelle shares her voice and her songs with the world with the release of Brightest Star, in the new year, on February 24, 2021.
Inspired by the sudden loss of her mother in the summer of 2016, Brightest Star, is a personal album written by Mighelle from grief and processing her mother’s death. During this time of reflection, music was the place Jerrika Mighelle was able to escape, where she could feel close to her mother. “My mother was my best friend, my moral compass, my confidant. When she died I was shattered. The songs on this album come from that place.”
“My mother was the first person I ever shared my music with. When I am rehearsing on my own, I can still hear her voice from the other room just saying the kindest words of encouragement that continue to inspire my songwriting and creating music. She is still here encouraging me every step of the way.”
Mighelle felt this presence when she opened for the Milwaukee based duo, Dead Horses at the Pablo Center at the Confluence 2016. During live performances, Mighelle’s spiritually connects to her audience through the deep meaning of her lyrics, and roots based rhythms, “Emotions are right on my sleeves at shows from all the wonderful, magical energy.”
The first single, Trouble, showcases Jerrika Mighelle’s diverse musical talent as a singer-songwriter and performer with a full band, creating the breakout sound of rich, rock and folk harmonies.
