Dan Zerr has solo work and also plays in Eau Claire’s most eclectic band, the Eggplant Heroes! Nici Peper is a rootsy, americana/ folk singer-songwriter based in Minneapolis, MN who is influenced by the tradition of classic storytellers.
The Rattlenecks are a 3-part harmony outfit from Eau Claire, WI.
Sweeping the rug right out from underneath their feet, Brian Bethke jumped to No. 1 this year, overtaking the reigning Eggplant Heroes, who still came in at No. 3 among local folk musicians. But Valley fans also love an up-and-coming artist, and they didn’t disappoint with their votes for the No. 2 spot. New on the scene, Idle Empress impressed everyone with their self-titled debut album, which was released in January. — Katy Macek
