Mountain Man is a trio made up of Molly Erin Sarle, Alexandra Sauser-Monnig and Amelia Randall Meath (Amelia will also be seen at Eaux Claires with her other–and starkly different–musical project Sylvan Esso!) that is known for quiet, minimalist folk songs that are sparse on instrumentation and heavy on harmonizing.
In their own words: “The music of Mountain Man is nestled in the tradition of American folk, but shoots like diamond dust out of the nest into the high, wide atmosphere. Their songs are shaped by three searching voices, encompassing harmonies and a shared belief in and love of the world. They are mutually moved to sing by their love for people, and for trees, birds and mountains, the ocean, the night, the moon, and being a woman. They all love the rambling, rumbling, rolling summer…”
Thus far Mountain Man has produced one full-length record, 2010’s Made The Harbor (embedded below!). According to their Facebook page besides Eaux Claires their only other appearance this summer is a one-off date in France, so it’s unclear at the time of writing this whether the world will be getting more Mountain Man shows and/or new music at some point in the future or if this is just a special reunion for the festival. Either way, be sure to see them live this summer because it’s certainly a special and rare thing.
