It’s a rarity, for me, when an artist revisits an old work and I find things in both recordings I love deeply. If Charlie Parr’s newly released version of “Cheap Wine” is any indication of the depth of his upcoming self titled album coming out on September 27th, we are in for something special. Think something along the lines of Cash’s American recordings in lush soundscapes and honest retellings.
The track is below, so I won’t gush too much more. It will be worth hanging out at the store an hour before daybreak to get my hands on this release.
If you want to see Charlie Parr live you’ll have a chance at Winona’s Boats and Bluegrass Festival on September 28th.
