Last weeks episode focused on an Irish folk tradition known as spailpin, characterized by feelings of hardship, loneliness, and loss. But just as every record has an A or B side, I also encountered songs of love, redemption, and hope, more so than in many of the other cities I’ve traveled. This episode focuses on the unapologetic and forthright type of love that is sung about in Derry.
