“Safe” is the 2nd track released as a single from their upcoming album “#2”. While it is
immediately recognizable as picard, it shows obvious direction changes and style experimentation. The band has purposefully taken their time with each song and let them become ready on their own.
The band admits that the writing process was much harder for this album. They also state that this is due to personal life constraints of band members and trying to find that next step within those constraints. In picard standard practices, there is no description given for the song, or any inclination as to what “Safe” is about. It belongs to the listener and means something different for each person.
“We wanted to stay true to our approach of letting the songs develop into what they would ultimately be on their own. We also wanted to stretch and expand on what we had already done, so we ran into a lot of walls because it. It often felt like we were forcing things and had to step away from songs we were working on. Detach and re-approach with a clean slate.” – Jason Ulwelling
