****Welcome to “Spin This”, a new regular feature on BlugoldRadio.org where we talk to local artists and bands about what songs, artists, and/or records they’ve been listening to. We’ll compile their picks and recommendations in an ongoing, ever-growing Spotify playlist (embedded at bottom of page!) for your browsing & listening pleasure***
2017 has been a big year for The Rattlenecks – just last month they released their album “Heart Lies” (available via vinyl, CD, Spotify, iTunes and also embedded below for your streaming pleasure) and have since been playing shows throughout the Chippewa Valley in support of it, including one of the very last House of Rock shows (happening tonight, info here).
We here at Blugold Radio have been playing a lot of tracks off of “Heart Lies” both on air and in our free time, but what have The Rattlenecks been listening to lately? We asked them to share what’s been in their headphones or on their record players this summer, and each member of the band shared a pick or two. Read up on their selections below and check out the Spin This Spotify playlist linked at the bottom of the page!
Adam Harder Nussbaum (Drums)
Anderson Paak – “Malibu”
I like how well he combines different musical influences, but keeps everything rooted in soul. I love the production on this album. I also like how they mix R&B, soul and jazz. The guitar playing is tasty, too.
Ethan Schmidt (Bass)
Vulfpeck – “The Beautiful Game”
Amazing musicians and catchy hooks that get stuck in your head. Never fails to put me in a good mood!
Cody Jinks – “I’m not the Devil”
Honest, heartfelt lyrics set to traditional country music and a great voice. I particularly dig the harmonies in “No Guarantees”. My favorite record!
Gabe Koxlien (Keyboard, Guitar, Vocals)
Ray Lamontagne – “Gossip In The Grain”
Favorite track: “Winter Birds”
Todd Barneson (Guitar, Vocals)
The Figgs – “Follow Jean Through The Sea”
Track: “Jumping Again”. It’s the best!
Aimee Mann – “Mental Illness”
Beautiful melodies and lyrical content that is relatable but intelligent and interesting.
Jim Pullman (Guitar, Lead Vocals)
Priests – “Nothing Feels Natural”
Washington DC Punk Pop band that I cant get enough of. Angsty and fun! Favorite track: “Jj”
Alabama Shakes – “Sound And Color”
This band could’ve stuck to its debut album’s formula and been very successful, but instead the put out this fantastically adventurous effort! And Brittany Howard is the best female vocalist today (IMO). Favorite Track: “Future People”
