Giants of Midgard – Beware
Band Bio
Giants of Midgard was formed in 2013. Jodi and Noel wanted to branch out from doing covers so they asked old friend and multi instrumentalist Brent K. In the summer of 2016, Justin LeMay came on board to play drums. The band’s everything goes in the pot approach to their songs comes out in the diversity of song styles on their new release Beware.
Beware was recorded this past September at Pedal’s basement studio, Orange 72. Recording there was kind of special for Noel and Brent since they had practiced and written music there 25 years ago when it was the old Revolution Records basement. Most of the songs are about life in downtown Eau Claire or things the band likes to geek out on. “Latin Block” is a nod to the Linton Block that Noel and Jodi live on and the downtown night life they can see from their living room window above Clancy’s aka “the basement”. “Why do Texans Bite” is about a rowdy Thanksgiving Night at Clancy’s. “Gothic Mac” was inspired by a 10 things you should never do in a horror movie list that Noel found on the internet. “Got Worse on Friday” summarizes the plot of the second season of Arrow and Noel’s attempt to convince Jodi that is was worth watching. Music is also a common lyrical topic on this release. “Battle of the Grunge” is a salute to the classic Eau Claire band Grunge Machine. “This is How I Afford My Rock and Roll Lifestyle” is Noel and Jodi telling you what it takes to be in a band.
“Son of Hair Cut” is probably the only song ever that pays tribute to Black Flag, Lawrence Welk and Nashville. “Vlad Libs” is the vein of Robert Pollard’s abstract lyrical stylings.
