The hip hop category got swept up by the Guff Records crew this year. In first place, you’ve got Fathom, a staple of the local rap scene who’s been booking some major shows and holding down his own style, while collaborating with a bunch of other rappers and contributing to folk/pop/rap group We’re Wolves. In second place, you’ve got WayWard, a group made up of Fathom, DJ BluePauly2, and third-place finisher Mr. Pizzy. Pizzy’s fiery delivery and solo efforts make him stand out, and he’s been hosting national-level off-the-cuff rap battles in Eau Claire for the last year or so. Together, these dudes collectively work hard for their art, and it definitely shows year after year. — Eric Christenson
